No Scalpel Vasectomy at St Luke’s.
We have been performing NSV here for the last 15 years with very good results. The doctor will see you and explain the procedure first so you can make up your mind. It is a key hole operation with virtually no blood loss and much less complications than open Vasectomy. The recovery is also very quick with many going back to work straight after the operation.

Is it Painful
Apart from minor sting of the needle used to numb the skin and tube at the start you feel no pain.The skin can also be numbed with a local anaesthetic jet to do a no needle no scalpel vasectomy.
We NEVER inject into the testicle!
We can also prescribe some lorazepam as a sedative if you are very anxious and jittery.
Most people feel no pain after the operation. The anaesthetic last up to 16 hours and then if needed minor painkillers like Paracetamol or Ibuprofen will suffice.

Does it affect the sexual perfomance?
There is no effect on sexual perfomance. In fact sex is all the more enjoyable as the threat of pregnancy is removed.
Does it cause Cancer?
There were some unfounded reports to sugest it increased the risk of prostate cancer. There is no no such risk
What is the cost?
