TRIGGER FINGER OPERATIONS

http://stlukesurgery.co.uk/ What is Trigger Finger? Painful clicking of the finger or thumb is called Trigger finger or Trigger thumb. It is caused by tightening of the pulley in front of the bone at the base of the finger through which the tendon bending the fingers slide up and down. The tendon develops a small nodule which when passing through the tight pulley causes the click and pain. Ultimately the pulley becomes too tight to allow this to happen and the finger is permanenetly stuck in bent or straight position. Treatment. In early stages non operative treatment will work well. Temporary worsening of the condition is due to swel...

CARPAL TUNNEL OPERATIONS

http://stlukesurgery.co.uk/ What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? This is a condition where a nerve gets trapped in the front side of the wrist. It causes aching, pins & needles, burning sensation and later numbness and loss of dexterity in the Thumb, index, middle and part of ring finger. It is often worse at night or early morning. The troubling, burning symptoms may seem to improve in severe CTS when the nerve fibres die off one by one. The diagnosis can be made made by examination by your doctor by demonstrating numbness at the tips of three and half radial side fingers and reproducing the tingling in these fingers by acutely bending the wrist in for about 1 minute. In doubtful situations a Nerve Conduction Test is needed to confirm the entrapment. (Tingling in fingers can also happen when the nerve is trapped at its origin in the neck by a slipped disc in young or Spondylosis in the older patients.) Treatment. In mild to moderate cases it can be improved by wearing a spl...
